Installing
Unpack the archive and copy the program wherever you keep engines, for example:
tar -xzf Zugwunder-UCI-1.1.13-macos-arm64.tar.gz
mkdir -p ~/bin && cp zugwunder-uci-1.1.13/zugwunder-uci ~/bin/
On Linux the file names end in linux-x86_64 or linux-aarch64; the programs are statically linked and need no libraries. x86_64 requires AVX2 (Intel from 2013, AMD Zen); aarch64 runs on 64-bit ARM such as a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5.
A quick test in a terminal:
printf 'uci\nisready\ngo movetime 1000\n' | ~/bin/zugwunder-uci
Then add ~/bin/zugwunder-uci as a UCI engine in your chess program (in the Finder’s file dialog, ⇧⌘G takes you to ~/bin). No command-line arguments are needed. If macOS refuses to start the program, remove the quarantine flag once: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ~/bin/zugwunder-uci.
Recommended tournament settings
Threads 1 (or 4 for four-CPU lists), Hash 256, SyzygyPath to your tables, OwnBook false, Move Overhead 50 to 100. Each archive contains the README with all options, the calibration notes and check_uci.py, a protocol test you can run against the binary with Python 3.

The Linux builds are cross-compiled on a Mac. Version 1.1.10 passed all protocol tests on an Ubuntu machine; this build has not been run on Linux before release. Windows is prepared in the build system but not yet available.
